The current Hangover United AMSA team is having a bbq and small party at Emma Long Park this Sunday (April 30th 2006).

There will be some food and beer, but feel free to bring your own! Everyone is welcome, there will be plenty of familiar faces to those who haven't played for a while.

are we on for this sunday?
I'd love to know if we're intending to play, or if we're cancelling the whole shebang due to it being labor day.

Musings on the week in footie

  1. Sean and Leo are men you want on your team. Yes, indeed.
  2. Playing midfield is every bit as as hard as it looks. This is different than playing goalie, which is harder than it looks.
  3. I foresee more bicycle mileage in my future to improve mah cardiovascular health. *pantpantpant*
  4. I heart ehahrairah's sexy purple socks.
  5. Vivat phryday and his sorting hat!
  6. I hope Jenny is feeling better.

For y'all's reading pleasure, the FIFA soccer laws are at http://www.drblank.com/slaws.htm. According to FIFA, elahrairahphryday and bewandered are now senior footballers, and can bend the rules accordingly, just like women footballers. Bwahahahaha!

Sunday Morning Match Report (and a VERY nice Ireland jersey)
"Well there's many say there's been too much scoring and others that a purely defensive game will bore the fans but we've had an ab-sa-loot cracker here at Barton Springs today."

"Aye that it has been. Of particular interest is the shift in tactics and mid-season transfers which have really shaken things up--particularly for the elahrairah side which was smashed to pieces so recently. I'm as much a suspect of new regulations as the next man but I think this time the FA have got it right. Its been terrifically exciting with no shortage of goal attempts by the strikers on either team."

"Aye its the defense. Now last week Jen was playing more of a mid-field position but due to injury has found herself in the defensive back but still fully capable--especially with Chris, whose skills make him one of the most versatile, not to mention talented players on the field. The relatively new lad Shane has made a fine debut with the HFC as keeper--another critical balancing point to the club. Did you know his girlfriend knows Kung-Fu?"

"Apparently she was involved in an altercation with no-less than Victoria Beckham at a swank Chelsea cafe."

[nervous laughter] "I'm assuming the soliciters are getting invloved?"

"That is my understanding. Speaking of course of the strong female presence no analysis of this game would be complete without mentioning the defensive play of Elizibeth who has made keeper-Myrick's job so much easier this afternoon."

"And its all the more impressive since in several cases today their 2-2-1 formation has led to some hair-raising incidents. She's been the keeper's only friend in several cases--and despite that only a lone long range belter from Wayne managed to slip past."

"Well a late equalizer by Caldwell changed the scope. They've have solid support from Ryan and the impressive rookie Shawn in the mid-field. I could hear that bizarre collision between Reeves and Caldwell all the way up here in the press box. Now in penalty time its Wayne to Phryday, Phyrday goes to shoot...OH MY...what a hard tackle from Elizibeth...no yellow card either...it chipped over...CALDWELL is breaking loose and picking up speed with Reeves in close support--is there time for one last charge? This crowd in excess of three is on its feet as they pass mid-field there's hardly a defender in site! Caldwell screaming bloody murder--this a man on a mission! Shane staring down the barrel here as time runs out at Barton Springs...Caldwell takes his shot...the whistle...WHAT A GAME!"

Who says 1-1 isn't fun? I two goals in the previous game, shot like a drunk sailor [0]this Sunday and I guarantee this Sunday was a whole 'nother world o'fun.

Now hark unto this all you Celtic-sorts. This Irish National jersey is being offered by a guy who I have dealt with before. In fact, I have one and possibly two Gunner jerseys I'm bidding on at the same time--so if I win they could ship together and save $. Super rare long-sleeve version, if I had the money I'd take it myself.

soccer game from dac
If you get a chance post this to the live journal soccer forum, its a cheesy game but kind of fun and addictive.

default controls are

z to pass the ball/change player focus

x to kick goals and stuff

arrow keys to run around

1,2,3,4 changes the viewpoint of the field. I like the default view myself.

Pick a practice game the first time or two. Pick Brazil for yourself and Saudi Arabia for the computer the first time or two.

sorry about the double posting
Tonight. Illuminati. Beerland. 8 o'clock. Yes 8. Lance Armstrong benefit, because the Illuminati are all about helping, caring, sharing, and leaving you dead in the park with a bottle of pain killers and a gash in your left wrist.

Tomorrow. The first duty of a footballer is to SHOW UP.

I think there is a lot of confusion about where things are happening sooooo let's go through this ONE MORE TIME. SUNDAY games are still held in the green space, near Barton Springs pool, on Robert E Lee. Wednesday whatever is happening somewhere else but SUNDAY (thats TOMORROW) is still happening EXACTLY WHERE IT DID LAST WEEK. I know I rarely arrive right at the stroke of 9 but let's all try.

For those that have not been to the new ground, it is pretty east to find. Take Lamar south and turn right onto Barton Springs. Turn left at the first light PAST Chuy's (which is on the right) on to Robert E Lee. There's a baseball diamond on the right and the parking lots are just past the diamond on the right. If memory serves there are two parking lots and you want the second one. In any case just look for the big lone tree by the big open field. And listen for the whistle.

That is all.

well, if we're all signing up...
since dock has declared a number, i'd personally like to put in my request, as the unofficial official of hangover fc,

i declare myself #16.

which, of course, can be usurped by any real hangover "athletes".
7:22 pm
I am Dock... keeper of the goal, and the strategery.

I shall now choose my jersey number:

Thanks for playing... and the first duty is, of course, to show up!

I just wanted to say hi and that I've joined the Hangover Futbol community. Mark & I haven't made any games yet but we keep talking about it. He wants to get shin guards first but I'm up for getting a few bruises if need be.

When and where is the next game?

Additional Games or Kicking of the Ball
Let's talk about this here, since this is the community for HU, and I'm missing the discussion chasing it in other people's journals.

It seems the Team wants an additional weeknight game or practise. I'm down with that! On Monday night, Johan and I went walking through Intramural Fields. There was NO ONE there playing, and we discovered an extra field that's well-shaded and a little bit isolated that we think might be a rugby field. It would be a fabulous, centrally-located place to play.

Wylie's got a conflict with T/W/Th nights for the month of July, I believe. (If I'm wrong, W, speak up.) I will have a conflict with M and W nights beginning with the fall semester since I'll be in an evening class. So, that sounds to me like a Tuesday or Thursday night gathering might be just the thing. What do y'all think?

Being Scientific About This
I went to look up actual hourly temperatures, humidities, etc...

Data: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/EWX/PFM/EWXPFMEWX.1.txt
Key: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ewx/html/pfmkey.htm

According to the complex little table below, on Sunday the temperature will rise about 6 degrees (from 76F-82F) between 9am and noon while the humidity drops 15 percent. And it will be overcast.
